About the study
Verbal abuse can take many forms, and is a prevalent, but often overlooked and under-researched form of abuse.
Name-calling is a form of verbal abuse in which hostile, derogatory, or aggressive words are used to harm someone. With this research, we are hoping to understand what it is like to experience name-calling from a parent during childhood.
Adults who are over 18 and no longer live with their parents are invited to take part and share their experiences.
What the research involves
You will be invited to meet with the lead researcher for three one-hour long interviews to talk openly about your experience. This can include what the experience was like as a child and reflections on it as an adult.
Ethical Approval
The research has been approved by the Trinity College Dublin School of Psychology Ethics Committee. Participation is voluntary and all information will be anonymised.
